What is Leak Testing?
Leak Testing is a quality-control process used to verify the integrity of a component or assembly by detecting unwanted leakage. Even a small leak can lead to product failure, rejection, warranty claims and safety risks.
Major Leak Testing Methods
- AIR LEAK TEST
Uses Air or Nitrogen to pressurize the component and detect pressure loss. Suitable for accurate, repeatable and production-oriented leak detection. - HYDRO LEAK TEST
Uses water or liquid under pressure to verify leakage and pressure integrity. Suitable for pressure-proof and structural testing applications. - VACUUM LEAK TEST
Creates a vacuum inside the component and monitors pressure change to identify leakage. Suitable for products where vacuum integrity is critical.
Key Parameters for Leak Testing
Before selecting or designing a Leak Test Machine, the following parameters should be defined:
- Component / Product details
• Test medium – Air, Nitrogen, Water, etc.
• Test Pressure / Vacuum
• Allowable Leak Rate
• Test & Stabilization Time
• Required Cycle Time
• Product Volume
• Job Sealing / Fixture Requirement
• Manual or Automatic Operation
• ACCEPT / REJECT criteria
• Data Logging & Traceability
Knowledge Point:
Right Leak Test Method
+ Right Leak Limit
+ Right Fixture
+ Right Testing Time
= Reliable Leak Testing
